To Autumn - The Final Season In the Life of a Poet Essay -- Keats To A
To Autumn - The Final Season In the Life of a Poet à à à à à The years between 1818 and 1821 mark the final stage in John Keat's life. During this time period, Keats created some of his best poetry. These works would forever elevate Keats as a brilliant and talented poet whose mark would be left on the literary world forever. The last years of Keat's life were met with many challenges as well as inspirations. It was a combination of these which not only influenced, but inspired Keats to write such poems as, "The Eve of St. Agnes," "Lamia," "The Fall of Hyperion," and "To Autumn." "To Autumn" exemplifies maturity, resolution, perfection, and unification of a poem, a season, a day, and a poet. à John Keats was born on October 31, 1795, on the northern outskirts of London. In 1804, his father was thrown from a horse and died of a skull fracture. The following year, Keat's grandfather died. It was also about this time that his mother disappeared from her children's lives, leaving them to be raised by their grandmother. Three years later, in 1808, she reappeared ill with tuberculosis. In 1810 she died. Watching his mother die had a very strong impact on Keats. It may have influenced his decision to become a doctor. In 1811, at the age of sixteen, he became an apprentice to a Dr. Hammond. It was also at this time that Keats was handed a copy of Spenser's "Faerie Queen" by his friend and tutor, Cowden Clarke (Nylander). Keats became extremely interested in poetry. à By 1816, Keats was working in Guy's hospital in London as an apothecary and surgeon. Still, he continued to be drawn to poetry. In 1817, he was introduced to Leigh Hunt, a young journalist and poet who had a profound influence on his ... ...nce between life and death. There is the closure of a season, a day and a genius poet. In "To Autumn" Keats asks, "Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?" He need not worry. They are eternal within his poetry. à Works Cited Bate, Walter jackson, Ed. Wedding Speech for a Maid of Honor or Best Woman :: Wedding Toasts Roasts Speeches
Wedding Speech for a Maid of Honor or Best Woman My role of today is that of a Maid of Honor, and my name is Popen. Alison and I have known each other since tenth grade, eight years, which quite frankly, seems just like yesterday on one handâ⬠¦and like a million years ago on the other! Have you ever really thought about what friendship truly means to you? Well, I have especially when it comes to Alison and I. My friendship with her has been special to me, because she was a great person to go through the trauma of our teenage years with! No matter how much we have been through, we have always been there for each other through thick and thin. We support each other and stick up for one another when the other needs us most. We have gotten a lot closer over the years. We have seen other through the good, the bad and the ugly. I have loved watching this romance bloom. Nanen is a great guy! Heââ¬â¢s funny, friendly, really easy to get along with and really talkative especially once you get him going. Alison has just blossomed since Nanen came into her life. When Alison met Nanen it was obvious from the very beginning that he was the one. There was something different about him. She seemed to sparkle more than ever before. Sheââ¬â¢s become happier and has a better outlook on life in general. I look so forward to the future for these two. I know that Alison and Nanen will last a lifetime with each other. They just seem to have that certain something about them, and I know that theirs will truly be ââ¬â a match made in heaven.

ââ¬ÅMotherââ¬Â by Grace Paley Essay
The Jewish Grace Paley was born in 1922 and grew up in the Bronx, New York. Quite dedicated in the civil rights movement she started writing short stories in the fifties. Additionally, Paley was involved in the womenââ¬â¢s- and the peace movement. She wrote a number of short stories but got never done a whole book. Her stories contain mostly daily people from different ethnic groups, especially of the Jewish population. Grace Paley often tells her stories in an ironical sound and perspective of a female narrator. ââ¬Å"Motherâ⬠is a short but profound story. It is told through the flashbacks of a daughter. Pointing out several details, the image where the mother stands in various doorways is the most remarkable one. At the end of a story, there is a sentence ââ¬Å"I wish I could see her in the doorway of the living room.â⬠As a reader, I understand that the narrator utter these words from the bottom of her heart. It is likely to me that there is a mixture of feelings e xpressed in this saying: nostalgia and regret. The first reason of her wish is that she misses her mother. She misses her so much with all what she used to do when she was alive. All her memories seem to revive within her mind. We all know that family sentiments are very delicate, especially sentiments between mother and daughter. Therefore, even years after her death, whenever she misses her mother, everything seems like just happen yesterday. The second reason for her wish is because of her regret or repentance. When her mother was still alive, she made her sad and worried a lot about her. Now she wants to see her mother again to tell her that she has made a great progress. She has become mature and led a good life as her mother always hoped. Also, she feels regretful because her mother died when her mind was full of worry; neither the daughter nor the husband set her mind at rest. If her mother reappeared in the doorway again, she would tell her immediately that she could feel secure about her future and rest in peace. Above a ll else, it is her nostalgia and regret that she wishes to see her mother again in the door. As human beings, people often do not know what they get until it has gone. Consequently, they live with nostalgia and regret. The author uses a lot of stylistics devices to make the story more sentimental. There is a rhetorical question ââ¬Å"what will become of you?â⬠which shows the motherââ¬â¢s concern about her daughterââ¬â¢s future. We can see that the mother really caresà about her daughter. Another impressive stylistic device is when the father complains about his work. He uses a repetition of the word ââ¬Å"talkâ⬠. It occurs four times in one paragraph. As a result, he says the words ââ¬Å"talk talk talk talkâ⬠back-to-back but, nevertheless, still doesnââ¬â¢t talk to her which shows his indifference. The author uses a quite simple language, and keeps her sentences relatively clear and brief. She might do this to point out that the narrator is just a simple girl, a teenager. The lesson I draw from this story is that we should cherish what we are p ossessing, especially our parents. Their love and care is endless. Like it is said the story, most donââ¬â¢t take much of their mothersââ¬â¢ advice, but later they realize how important they were.

Acetone Research Paper
Acetone is an extremely popular solvent that is used in rubber, resin, plastics, lacquers, varnishes, and rubber cements. It is also used in the creation of fats, oils, and waxes where is a primary component. Acetone has many uses in modern technology including those that relate to the medical field and various domestic uses. It is a very important organic compound found in everyday life, but it is also a toxin and can be an extremely dangerous environmental pollutant.Acetone has many valuable uses in modern life and many American companies use Acetone as one of their key components to many household items. There are many ways that Acetone is used everyday. One of the most common purposes of Acetone and one of its most well known, is the use of Acetone as a primary ingredient in nail polish remover. Acetone is also commonly found in the use of artist and craft makers. Similar to nail polish remover, Acetone can be used in other artistic agents. A common use of Acetone is for the remo val of residues off metals, glass, and porcelain. It also commonly used as a remover of superglue. Acetone is also used greatly by make-up artists in order for them to easily remove skin glues and adhesives from fake moustaches and wig materials. There have been many claims that Acetone is dangerous to the humans due to concentrated exposure from these very sources, which has been proven true. Concentrated exposure has been proven on numerous occasions to have an adverse affect upon humans. There are many negative health effects from exposure to Acetone, and each one differs from different types of exposure.According to the National Pesticide Information, there four ways exposure to Acetone can occur. The first is through inhalation, which can cause the symptoms of confusion, coughing, dizziness, headaches, sore throat, and unconsciousness. The second form of exposure is through direct contact with the skin. This can cause dry skin and rashes. The third way is exposure to the eyes, w hich can cause redness, irritation, pain, blurred vision, and possible cornea damage. The fourth and final way of exposure is from ingestion.Ingestion can cause the same symptoms as inhalation as well as the possibility of nausea and vomiting. Clearly, there are many health risks to the exposure of Acetone. Along with these mentioned symptoms, there have also been studies that have shown possible dangerous and long-term health risks to concentrated exposure. These studies have shown that concentrated exposure has lead to fainting and long-term effects have shown to be kidney, liver, and nerve damages. There have also been studies that support that birth defects and male reproductive problems were also health concerns due to long-term exposure. While there appear to many health risks due to exposure of Acetone, Acetone itself is actually considered a relatively safe compound if used properly. According to The National Health and Medical Research Council, Acetone has been rates General ly Recognized as Safe. Many manufacturing companies see Acetone as safe is exposure is minuscule and to the minimum. Because of this, Acetone can be found in beverages, pastries, desserts, processed and unprocessed foods, and is also found in a variety cosmetic and beauty products. While Acetone is considered to be only slightly hazardous to many manufacturing companies, it is important to recognize what Acetone truly is. Allow Acetone exhibits relatively low dangerous properties, it can deadly when properly exposed. Acetone is still considered a toxic chemical and can cause devastating destruction if exposed as an environmental pollutant. While Acetone does not pose much threat to humans in moderate doses, just slight exposure to the environment can completely upset an ecosystem. When exposed to the environment, Acetone is typically found polluting groundwater areas. This is due to Acetoneââ¬â¢s high water solubility in water. In water, Acetone can cause great health defects to wi ldlife. Because common groundwater would be the home and drinking source of many organisms, Acetone pollution can quickly cause health problems and sicknesses in a surrounding ecosystem. The most common wildlife affected by Acetone are those that are water based. Studies have shown that fish and amphibians exposed to high levels of Acetone have numerous internal health defects, which include deformation to the reproductive organs.Acetone has also been shown to cause a risk of oxygen depletion in these aquatic areas. Acetone is also known to evaporate relatively quickly, which allows it to dissipate and spread into the atmosphere even when properly disposed of. Acetone is one of the most used solvents in the world and is found in numerous consumer products. From an economic standpoint, Acetone is found to be a relatively safe chemical. However studies have shown that exposure to Acetone can lead to adverse effects in humans. Acetone has also been shown to be an extremely deadly envir onmental pollutant, which can destroy ecosystems.

On The Last Days of My Life Essay
On The Last Days of My Life The Fantasy of My Life On the last days of my life, I want to thank God for everything, for taking care of my family and for my own safety as well. I know every second of our lives are so significant, so I want to make memories be unforgettable. Not every moment Iââ¬â¢m here for my beloved family but towards my weaknesses, they still there for me and always encouraging me to stand and never say ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢noââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢. I want to thank them for giving their lots of love and care even sometimes I lose hope, they are diligent enough in explaining that life goes on whatever may happen at least I did my better than best. I also want to spend the last days of my life to those people who are very close to my heart, my gloomy friends. I want to make a big sacrifice for them and that is to see that they are happy and contented enough for what God that has given to them. Pervasis Case Study
Pervasis Receives Orphan Drug Designation in Europe for Vascugelà ® to Prevent Arteriovenous Access Failure in Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis Cell-Based Therapy Aims to Regulate the Bodyââ¬â¢s Healing Response, Promoting Vascular Repair, Reducing the Need for Repeat Surgical Procedures and Improving Patient Outcomes Cambridge, Mass. , March 1, 2011 ââ¬â Pervasis Therapeutics, Inc. announced today that the European Commission (EC) has granted Orphan Drug Designation for Vascugelà ® for the prevention of hemodialysis vascular access failure in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD).The designation follows a positive opinion from The Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP) within the European Medicines Agency (EMA) earlier this year. Vascugel is a novel endothelial cell-based therapy that aims to regulate the bodyââ¬â¢s healing response following surgical interventions to create vascular access which are necessary for ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis.By p romoting and enhancing vascular repair, Vascugel reduces the need for repeat surgical interventions and improves overall patient outcomes. ESRD is an advanced and irreversible condition treated mainly by hemodialysis or kidney transplantation. It is estimated that more than 250,000 ESRD patients in the EU receive hemodialysis, a blood purification therapy designed to replace critical kidney functions ââ¬â such as filtering waste.Orphan Drug Designation by the EC provides regulatory and financial incentives for companies to develop and market therapies that treat a life-threatening or chronically debilitating condition affecting no more than five in 10,000 persons in the European Union (EU). In addition to a 10year period of marketing exclusivity in the EU after product approval, Orphan Drug Designation provides companies with scientific advice and regulatory assistance from the EMA during the product development phase, direct access to centralized marketing authorization, as wel l as reductions in certain fees. We are committed to bringing Vascugel to patients with end stage renal disease who currently must endure serious complications and repeat surgical procedures so they can continue to receive life-saving hemodialysis treatment,â⬠Frederic Chereau, president and chief executive officer of Pervasis. ââ¬Å"Receiving Orphan Drug Designation in the EU is an important step, as it will help to advance the development process, and enhance our ability to deliver our novel cellbased therapeutic approach to address this significant unmet medical need. Vascugel has demonstrated proof of concept in two Phase 2 clinical trials involving patients with ESRD who require a permanent arteriovenous (AV) access in order to undergo hemodialysis. In these trials, Vascugel exhibited an excellent safety profile, and encouraging efficacy trends were observed, including improved duration of patency (or unimpeded blood flow) and a delay in time to first intervention as comp ared to placebo. In 2009, Pervasis received Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Vascugel in patients with ESRD. Pervasis announced last month that the FDA had granted Fast Track review status for Vascugel. Last year, Pervasis reached an agreement with the FDA for a Phase 3 clinical trial of Vascugel under the Agencyââ¬â¢s Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) procedure, whereby FDA formalized its agreement that the design of the Phase 3 trial was acceptable to support a regulatory submission seeking new drug approval.Failure of Hemodialysis Access Points Leads to Poor Outcomes During hemodialysis, blood is removed from the body, filtered through a dialyzer, or artificial kidney, and then returned to the body. Patients must undergo a surgical intervention to create a vascular access that enables blood to flow from the body to the dialyzer and back to the body. AV fistulae (created by directly joining an artery and vein) and AV grafts (created u sing a synthetic tube to join an artery and vein) are the two primary types of hemodialysis access.Due to an inflammatory cascade triggered by surgical intervention, the vascular access often has difficulty healing, and quickly become unusable or clot rapidly, prompting the need for additional, recurring surgeries to create a new access which can lead to multiple complications. Up to 60 percent of all arteriovenous (AV) grafts require re-intervention after one year. 1, 2 AV access failure is the most common reason for hospitalization among hemodialysis patients and can lead to anemia, infection, weight loss, jaundice, prolonged bleeding, and other serious complications. Vascugelà ® ââ¬â Combating Inflammation and Promoting Healing Pervasisââ¬â¢ novel approach to cell therapy uses adult-differentiated allogeneic endothelial cells (donor endothelial cells with a highly targeted biologic function) embedded in a polymer matrix to enhance the bodyââ¬â¢s natural healing respons e. The endothelium is the thin layer of cells that lines the interior surface of blood vessels in the body. Endothelial cells are critical to tissue repair and health, and have a well-understood role in regulating many of the bodyââ¬â¢s healing processes, including those associated with vascular repair.Vascugel, which utilizes Pervasisââ¬â¢ patented endothelial cell-based platform, is placed on the outside of the blood vessel at the AV access site during the surgical intervention to create the access. The endothelial formulation in Vascugel secrete several factors that combat inflammation and promote proper vascular healing, reducing thrombosis (or clotting) and the formation of intimal hyperplasia, or a thickening of the blood vessel wall in response to injury. After approximately four to eight weeks, Vascugel is safely resorbed by the body.Pervasisââ¬â¢ other areas of clinical investigation include improving outcomes in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) follow ing surgical procedures such as percutaneous transluminal angioplasties (PTAs) with stenting, the failures of which result in serious complications and a significant increase in medical costs. Earlier this year, Pervasis announced it has also embarked on an oncology development program using its proprietary endothelial cellbased platform to prevent solid tumor growth, cancer recurrence and metastatic disease. HOW MIGHT DEVELOPING CULTURAL COMPETENCE IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH Essay - 1
HOW MIGHT DEVELOPING CULTURAL COMPETENCE IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES - Essay Example Growing cultural diversity in UK involving both healthcare practitioners and clients has however triggered significant desirability for change towards cultural competence within the countryââ¬â¢s healthcare system. This paper discusses how developing of cultural competence based on the Papadopoulos et al. may improve mental health care services in UK. Papadopoulos et al. (1998) provides a cultural competence model capable of facilitating effective implementation cultural competence within the UK health care system. The cultural competence model developed by Papadopoulos et al. (1998) entails five constructs including cultural awareness, knowledge on the clientsââ¬â¢ culture, and development of cultural skills, cultural encounters and culture desire. The five constructs are perceived as central to healthcare practitionersââ¬â¢ ability to deliver care within patientââ¬â¢s cultural context. The model recognizes the role of culture in influencing patientsââ¬â¢ way of thinking and perception about their health problems. The cultural competence model is viewed as an ongoing process that involves integration of the five cultural competence constructs to enable health practitioners achieve the ability to deliver health care services within patientsââ¬â¢ cultural context (Campinha-Bacote 2002). The model emphasizes on the n eed for health care practitioners to appreciate cultural diversity in the process of providing care to their patients or clients. Culturally competent services emerge as essential to improve the general health care system through recognition, incorporation, practicing and valuing cultural diversity the delivery of health care services. The cultural competence model focuses on ensuring quality services for culturally diverse populations, including provision of culturally appropriate interventions. According to Lightburn and Sessions (2005), culture significantly determines whether or when an individual seeks help, the kind of help and from
